Jan Harthan and her husband, Dave, have
served with Wycliffe Bible Translators since 1971. They worked for 19
years in Brazil and 10 years in Mozambique. She is a devoted wife,
mother, and grandmother. Jan holds a B.A. from Bethel College in St.
Paul, Minnesota, in Elementary Education. She is a professional copy
editor. She has done editing for many years for Wycliffe Bible
Translators. She has done freelance copy editing for Tyndale House
Publishers, Scripture Press, Livingstone Corporation, and J. David
Schmidt Company. Jan was one of the copy editors of the New Living
Translation. She is utilizing her gifts to produce a paraphrase of God’s
Word that will grow and nurture children after God’s own heart. |

Jan and Dave began their missionary career in
Mexico for Jungle Camp training with Wycliffe Bible Translators.
From there, they went to Costa Rica to study Spanish and on to
Colombia for an internship. They arrived in Brazil in August of
1974, where they spent the next 19 years. Jan filled various roles
over those years, depending upon current needs: typist, bookkeeper,
computer operator, computer department supervisor, graphic design,
literature production coordinator, and human resources coordinator.
They left Brazil in July of 1993 and then worked for three years in
the Wycliffe office in West Chicago. Dave and Jan then worked in
Mozambique from 1996-2006. During those years Jan worked in various
roles: editor, bookkeeper, office manager, and public relations
coordinator. They are currently assigned to JAARS, the technical
support arm of Wycliffe Bible Translators in Waxhaw, NC. |
